Leaving celebrities alone is a hobby of mine but when I saw Penn Jillette at supercool oldschool lounge Vegas restaurant the Peppermill, I couldn't not tell him how much I dug the song he'd done on a Rutles tribute album in the early 90's. I was worried when he was speechless for a second but then he exclaimed "OH MY GOD! No one's ever told me that!" He was super nice and asked me what poster I'd just bought. It was a poster of Abbott & Costello doing "Who's On First?". I planned on doing an Elvis Costello tribute someday and thought it'd make a good backdrop. Jillette told me that there was a photo I absolutely HAD to find. He was once backstage at an Elvis Costello concert and a fan gave EC a photograph of Elvis Presley and Lou Costello. Costello had never seen the photo even though he created his stage name by combing their names. Since Costello died in 1959, there were only a few years after Presley became popular when they could've met. When I got home, I hopped online and e-mailed every Abbott & Costello website I could find asking if anyone knew where I could find the photo. No one did, including Lou Costello's daughter who e-mailed me. Oh well. Four months later, I got an e-mail from someone saying "I heard you were looking for these." Attached were three color photos of Elvis Presley, Lou Costello and Jane Russell taken on June 28, 1957. I e-mailed them back to say thanks and ask how they'd heard I was looking. They never replied. They must be rare because, as of this writing, I could only find one of them anywhere online. Thanks, mysterious stranger.
