Since I’m up to the G’s in the ABC’s of Rock, it’s time to tell the short story of the Grays. When I started telling Jellyfish Tales, I assumed I’d get to this part of the story much later. Oh well, maybe indeed (see what I did there?). Most folks found out about the band because guitarist Jason Falkner had recently been in Bay Area cult faves Jellyfish but the Grays also brought mad musical scientist Jon Brion to the light, even though Buddy brought in the best songs (so sez me). So, here goes nothing: six shows, a fanclub pitch and hopefully something interesting…
GRAYS TALE #1: GRAY AREAS (CHAPTER XII in the Jellyfish saga) It just so happens that the first part of the Grays tale falls right in the middle of the Jellyfish story where I left off and retired around 1996 or so. Now I get to correct spelling errors and cut short some rambling I typed up 15 years ago….
GRAYS TALE #1B: BOSTON MUSICAL CHAIRS The East coast prequel backstory
GRAYS TALE #2: ROCKIN THE PARADISE First show at San Francisco’s Paradise Lounge
GRAYS TALE #3: BERKELEY MUSE Noontime show at Cal and interviewing Jason
GRAYS TALE #4: RETURN TO PARADISE Back to SF’s Paradise Lounge for a radio convention showcase
GRAYS TALE #5: SANTA BARBARA EXTRAVAGANZA UCSB festival and a Ro Sham Bo rundown
GRAYS TALE #6: HARD ROCKING OFF THE WALL San Francisco Hard Rockstable, their most memorable live moment, the fanclub that never happened and all six of their non-album tracks.
GRAYS TALE #7: BRIT ME WITH YOUR BEST POP The band plays an instore at Anglophile central then breaks up.
GRAYS TALE #8: THE GRAY MORNING AFTER The Where-Are-They-Now file.
